Reading from Resonance|What Is a Calling?

The “Calling” — Not a Voice, but a Presence

A calling —
it’s not someone shouting your name.
It’s more like a presence, arriving from a voiceless direction,
reaching into the depths of your chest.
By the time you notice it, it’s already there —
something quietly watching you.

Most of us, caught in the noise of everyday life,
don’t notice it at all.
But when we pause in stillness,
we may sense a faint vibration
— unmistakably there.

A Calling Comes First

We tend to think,
“I’m the one praying,”
“I’m the one asking.”
But perhaps,
before we ever reach out —
something is already reaching for us.

It doesn’t come as a voice.
Not even as words.
It’s simply something we find ourselves sensing.

For instance:
— We stop before a landscape, without knowing why.
— An old memory wells up and nearly brings tears.
— A long-forgotten face suddenly returns to mind.

We weren’t seeking these moments —
they came from “the other side.”
And that fleeting sense of being touched
— that’s the calling.

A Calling Is the Beginning of Resonance

In the moment we feel called,
a quiet tremor begins inside us.
Something that had been still
starts to gently stir.

This tremor seeks no action.
It doesn’t demand that we do anything.
Only that we notice. That we listen.

That is when we begin to resonate.
Our being aligns, quietly,
with something echoing through the world.

Not a Voice You Can Name, Yet Undeniably Here

A calling doesn’t have to come from someone.
It might be the resonance of a place,
a message from your past self,
or even a vision of a future not yet seen.

Still —
you feel it, here and now.
Whether it’s an illusion or not doesn’t matter.
The fact that you felt it — that is real.

A Calling Is Also the Gateway to Trust

When we’re led by something we can’t explain,
a strange mix of unease and trust arises.

“I don’t know why, but I feel I must go.”
“I can’t stop thinking about this one word.”
These small, persistent nudges
— they shift the entire course of a life.

At the beginning of that shift is the calling.
To answer it is to open yourself, like an instrument,
to unknown resonance.

It offers direction,
but never a “right answer.”

The Hill Was Born from a Calling, Too

All the writings on this Hill
came forth in response to “something.”
Rather than being thought up,
they were more like something that rose up — and was passed on.

That’s why, if any of these words
touch something in you,
that, too, may be a sign:
a calling has reached you.
